The wedding ceremony took place at the Tropical Grove at The University of Western Australia, a venue very dear to our heart. It was the venue Marina and I were meant to get married at, before rain washed away those dreams on a rainy February day in 2007.

For location photos, we stayed around the university grounds before heading off to Swanbourne beach for some sand, sun, and a lot of fun. It was a brilliant day, rounded off with a lovely reception at the very inviting Indiana at Cottesloe.      

We started with a lovely and emotional ceremony at the very photogenic Christ Church Claremont. For photos, we first went to the blue boatshed on Mounts Bay Road, and then we roamed the streets of Fremantle. We concluded the day with a reception at the Esplanade Hotel.

An awesome day all around, we were so glad to be a part of it.          

The wedding ceremony was held at the Church of St Mary The Virgin in South Perth. Reverend John of this church is the current holder of Objektiv Photography’s prestigious Most Helpful Priest award, for his awesome help on the day. Not only did he suggest that I stand behind the altar to get the best angle for the ceremony shots, but he also moved away at the critical time, allowing me to get a clear shot of Amber walking down the isle. Top stuff!

For location photography, we visited one of our favourites, East Perth, and we concluded the day with a gorgeous reception at the Parmelia Hilton Hotel in Perth.

As everyone was recuperating from the Christmas / New Year shenanigans, we were hard at work. Our first wedding of the year was that of lovely Emily and her beau Tiernan. We started the day by sharing love, emotions and a bit of wedding day nerves with Emily and her family. The ceremony was held at the impressive St Joseph’s Church in Subiaco and the reception took place at the Royal Perth Golf Club in South Perth. In between, we stopped by The University of Western Australia for location photos. There, we were greeted by piece, tranquility and lack of other bridal parties. Ah, the beauty of a Tuesday wedding .

With both the bride and groom working in event planning, it was no wonder they had amazing things planned for their day. Not everyone has elephants painting during their wedding, and photos on an old carousel. Both of these were courtesy of the Perth Zoo, where the ceremony was held.

Rather than waiting for after the event, the couple updated their Facebook status to married as part of the ceremony. They also showed their support for marriage equality by wearing White Knots.

The couple then drove in an old black London cab to their stylish lunch reception at the Indiana Teahouse. You would be forgiven for thinking you stepped back in time when getting there. And you also wouldn’t know where to look first, whether at the vintage teapots and vases holding various flowers, table names held with old book pages, or origami menus. The guests also had a lot of fun with a photo booth, costumes and all!

Having said all that, we’re pretty sure this blog post was worth the wait. The wedding day was so full of energy, positive vibe, laughter and joy right from the word go. The day was also very long, as we started with Blair’s preparation and finished up at pretty much the end of the reception. All that, we hardly noticed, it went in a blink of an eye and we loved every minute of it.

The wedding ceremony was held at the St Benedict’s Church in Applecross, and the reception was held at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Perth. In between, we took photos at the leafy Kintail Rd in Applecross, as well as the always fabulous East Perth waterfront.

The reception really went off, with one of the highlights being a fantastic surprise choreography that some of the guests prepared to the tune of LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem” (the shufflin’ song). 

The day started at Nicola’s parents’ house where the warmth and love of a close-knit family was so beautifully evident. Nicola had a well-guarded secret for her wedding day, the colour of her dress. You could just hear the wows and grasps from everyone, including the groom, as she walked down the isle. This just shows that the norms and rules are there to be broken, especially when they do not reflect one’s personality.

The ceremony was held at the funky Swan Shell in Burswood. Its geometry creates funny air turbulence, and this made it nearly impossible to release balloons, but Nicola and Bryan at the end overcame the laws of physics .

The location photos were done at the Hyde Park (this was our second visit there in two weeks), and the reception was held at the cosy Origins Restaurant inside the Pan Pacific hotel (formerly Sheraton) in Perth. A big head turner at the reception was the awesome looking wedding cake that fit so well with the colour and feel of the day.

Finally, big shout out to Kirsty and Ryan from Covered With Love, whose wedding we photographed in 2010, and who helped with the design and planning of Nicola and Bryan’s wedding.

Jarnais and the bridesmaids got ready at the Novotel in Perth before heading off to the ceremony at the lovely St Matthew’s Anglican Church in Guildford.

Another memorable feature of this wedding was the calmness of the air around us, or more specifically the lack of it. This must have been the windiest day of the year in Perth. We had a fantastic idea to go to the Mount Lawley campus of the Edith Cowan University for photos, so that we could use their fabulously coloured walls as backdrops. What we did not realise was that the campus was designed to capture all the wind, amplify it and channel it towards the photo locations . But Jarnais and Grant stood their ground and we had a fantastic time.

In contrast, our second photo location Hyde Park gave us a sense of calm and stillness, with the serene look of the Jacaranda trees and their falling bloom. Jarnais and Grant concluded their big day with a reception back at the Novotel.

Dianna got ready at the Hillarys Harbour Resort and the wedding ceremony took place at the beautiful St John’s Anglican Church in Fremantle. This church is a very popular tourist destination in Fremantle, but we still could not believe when two tourists came in and had a look around, fully oblivious that a wedding was about to take place .

The location photos were done around the well known and well photographed Cliff Street area of Fremantle. It is well photographed for a reason, as it is simply one of the most strikingly stunning backdrops for wedding photography that we have in Perth. From there, we made a stopover at the Swanbourne beach for some lovely late afternoon beach shots, before heading off to the Breakwater for the wedding reception.

The wedding was held at the Leonda Function Centre, Mundijong. This is a very secluded place, like a well guarded secret. It is beyond reach of the modern technology – it does not have a functioning website for us to hyperlink to in this text, and even Google Maps and Garmin GPS do not know where it is. Having said all that, we have to give props to the good old Street Directory for getting us there without a hassle.

It’s probably a good thing that not many people know about them, otherwise they would be swamped with wedding photographers all the time. They have what is probably the Perth’s best kept secret as far as wedding photography locations go. A beautiful nearby alley of trees left us flabbergasted when we saw it first. Lovely late afternoon light there made for some fantastic photography that we are very proud of.

Thank you Leanne and Craig for this opportunity. You fought off the hot weather and the swarm of flies all day, and you brought such energy to the photoshoot. We hope that these photos convey at least a small part of love that we witnessed on the day.
