A few weeks ago we got together with a few of our creative friends, and decided to stretch our creative muscles a little bit. We all wanted to try something unique and different, and the results are here for your viewing pleasure.
Snezana from Snow White Cakes and Jen from Jen’s Floral Designs went all out to create these masterpieces! We were in awe of their dedication and professionalism to this casual project, and can only imagine the work and effort they put into real weddings.
It is also very convenient when one has a gorgeous cousin, who is prepared to suffer at the hands of inexperienced make-up artist / hairdresser (Marina on this occasion). Anja was a great sport, keeping a positive attitude and obliging our every direction throughout the warm afternoon.
Mladen didn’t hold back with the camera, Harold Boas Gardens were perfect as always and out of 1,500 shots, we present these 50 60…..ish…
We all like the nautical theme, but we also liked lush flowers, rich colours, and woodland details, so we decided – why not mix them! The tablescape evolved before our eyes, and it was all so whimsical, and fun, but still elegant. I guess you can say this was not the case of ‘less is more’, it was more of a ‘more is more’
Jen went all out with these arrangements of different heights and shapes. She combined a number of flowers, from red roses, to lilies, berries, branches, all the way to banana flowers! The reds, the burgundies, pinks and purples, are such a rich and opulent palette, and combined with the striking stripe, and gold details, they absolutely sing.Accessories are very effective in completing the theme or really pushing the wow factor. The photos show different placement of arrangements and accessories. Tree stumps, logs, moss, fruit and vegetables were incorporated to add interest to the setting. Wine glasses, jars and candles are also very effective and even putting a few flowers amongst them can really make the difference.
The bouquet has an additional surprise of a pair of cute pink radishes! Carrying on with the theme, we decided to do something different with it. We decided to use a mixture of flowers and vegetables in it to create a unique and interesting variety of colours and textures. The flowers used were calla lilies, David Austin roses, dahlias, berries, carnations, veronicas and trailing amaranthus, while kale and radishes were placed in prominent positions in the bouquet. The radishes poked out like large buds while the kale was a fantastic substitute for traditional greenery, offering a lovely texture without looking out of place.And as the ‘piece de resitance’ there was an asymmetrical floral crown, which was so comfortable, that after hours of shooting, Anja forgot it was on her head and nearly walked off with it. Jen decided to do an asymmetrical floral crown which suited the gown and hairstyle. Anja also commented on the lovely fragrance from the flowers when she wore it. Jen chose David Austin roses for the focal point of the crown, with Christmas bush, spray roses, amaranthus and orchids used to great effect.
Snezana from ‘Snow White Cakes’ (Snezana is Snow White in Serbian) wanted to play with gold for her creation. She made a two tiered wedding cake, gold on top and white with delicate rice paper flowers brushed with gold on the bottom. The candied apples were also eye candy in their rich red. Together with the white cake, they are almost a perfect replica of Snow White Cakes logo!
She also made the most elegant cake pops, which were a combination of white a gold, and which after the shoot disappeared in a blink! They’re not your standard kiddie cake pops, these things are rich and worthy of an appearance at any wedding.
And here is Anja in all her beauty, wearing a Moss & Spy wedding gown. The dress is now for sale, it’s in perfect condition, worn only on this occasion, size 10. $200 Contact.
The table ‘landscape’ kept evolving with details, fruit, flowers and in the end lush lovely moss, with a few candles as the sun was setting. In the background Jen (with the help of her very supportive lovely husband Jonathan) hung a few different samples of floral decorations, a ball of flowers, a string of rose petals, and a few darling small jars with single flowers. These are very popular for ceremonies, we’ve also seen her do them in striking yellow!
So what we’d all like to say is – don’t be affraid to go for something different for your wedding, to be bold, mix styles. Ask your suppliers, they’ll be delighted to create something unique just for you! This is obviously a very stylised shoot, but details of it can be applied to ceremonies, signing tables, bridal tables, dessert tables… Add some magic to your day…
