Memories, sweet memories – that’s what the beautiful Serbian wedding of Svjetlana and Denis brought to us. Both Marina and I moved to Australia from Serbia in 1990’s, and this day reminded us of the weddings we went to as kids – the sort of weddings that seem to be etched in our memories forever.

The distinct feature of Serbian weddings is that the bride and the groom travel to the church together. That is, the groom’s family visits the bride’s family first. There, they are meant to “buy out” the bride, after a good dose of price negotiations This time around, the groom’s family came well prepared – they had a great bargaining tool in a football shirt from the bride’s family’s favourite Serbian team (the famous 1991 European champion Red Star Belgrade).

The wedding ceremony took place in the Serbian Orthodox Church of Holy Trinity in Perth. From there, we went to the always-lovely University of Western Australia for some location wedding photography, and we concluded the day with a wedding reception at the South of Perth Yacht Club. What a fantastic day it was!
