DIY Photo Booth & Props One of the biggest trends in the last few years is the rise of the DIY Photo Booth. While you can hire a company to set this up for you, it is a lot more fun to make your own. Whether you choose to ask your wedding photographer to incorporate some of the wedding photography package costs into taking these images, or whether you provide guests with a Polaroid camera, they can work very well to gather the ‘fun’ shots from the after party. With DIY backdrops made from shower curtains, tablecloths, ribbons or painted plywood, there are lots of options. Using felt and lolly pop sticks for stencilling and cutting out props like fake moustaches, glasses and masks, all work well. Filling a box full of dollar store hats, frames and silly masks all add to the fun and these props can make for some great photographs. Parasols, Fans and Feathers If you are hosting your reception at a beach side location, consider the style of photograph you would like with your Bridesmaids. Rather than a formal photograph, use props to play up to the fun of the day. After all, these are the women you choose to be your nearest and dearest. Parasols, fans and giant ostrich feathers are all a little bit different compared to using flower bouquets. They are a nice touch to frame a photograph as well as being playful in how they can engage the camera with a game of ‘hide-and-seek’. Vroom Vroom .... Retro Transport Using the transport you came in as a backdrop and as a larger prop can be very effective for taking a unique image of your full Bridal party. Whether it is a vintage Rolls Royce, a retro Volkswagon Beetle Van, a Horse and Carriage or a luxury Limosuine, use it to play with on the day. If your reception is being held on a unique location such as a farm or golf club, use appropriate vehicles that might be found there such as a tractor or golf caddy carts. Organise this in advance with the venue and be sure to inform your photographer, so you get the photographs you want. If your groom works in any front line services and you are daring enough, see if you can get your hands on a fire truck or police car. Finger Post Signs, Chalkboards and Giant Letters Make your signage work for you. You can make very simple finger post signs out of light plywood and paint them with chalkboard paint. They work perfectly for rustic country weddings, forest themed weddings, festival themed weddings or any wedding styles that involves the great outdoors. Use them to direct people to the drinks reception, facilities or dance floor. They make cute wedding photography collages combined with all the different close up shots of the venue, food and décor, as well as acting as photo props for wedding guests to pose with. Giant wooden letters on the lawn can be very dramatic for unusual angle shots with the couple hiding behind them or taken from a higher location looking down. Balloons & Bunting For the Bride who loves a bit of whimsy and frolicking shots in the long grass with her Groom, a giant round helium balloon can add drama to any image. With ideas suggesting being swept off your feet, you’ll get lots of inspiration on Pinterest and Instagram for this. Just make sure you don’t get the helium filled until that morning and designate a member of the Bridal party to do it. Attaching ribbons in your wedding theme colours can tie it all in together. Bunting has made a major comeback in the last few years and can add a lovely feel to any wedding, it is easy to make or buy, flexible and affordable, and looks great in photographs.
